Göcek is a small, upscale marina town in Muğla Province on Turkey's southwest coast, set at the sheltered northern end of the Gulf of Fethiye, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. Pine-covered hills drop almost straight to the water, and the bay in front of the town is scattered with wooded islands and deep, calm inlets. Its reputation rests on yachting. Several marinas line the seafront, and Göcek is a standard starting point for gulet charters and blue-cruise routes, as well as for day boats around the Twelve Islands and anchorages such as Bedri Rahmi Bay, Tersane Island and Cleopatra's Bath. Because the whole gulf is a protected area, building is tightly restricted: the town stays low-rise and green, with a palm-lined promenade, cafés and small shops instead of high-rise hotels. Göcek itself has very little beach, so swimming is normally done from a boat in the surrounding coves, and most visits are built around a day cruise or a longer charter. The boating season runs from spring into autumn, with late spring and early autumn the quietest and least hot stretches. Dalaman airport is close by, which is one reason many cruises along this coast begin or end here.
