İnegöl is a district and town in Bursa Province, in Turkey's Marmara region, set on a broad plain southeast of Bursa city where the slopes of Uludağ give way to the Domaniç mountains. It stands on the old overland routes linking Bursa with Eskişehir and inland Anatolia, and the surrounding countryside figures in accounts of the earliest Ottoman expansion. Two things carry the name nationally. The first is İnegöl köfte, a grilled meatball made to a deliberately plain recipe and cooked over charcoal, usually served with onion, grilled peppers and bread; the grill houses in the town centre are why most Turkish travellers stop here. The second is furniture — İnegöl is one of Turkey's largest furniture-manufacturing centres, and workshops, timber yards and showrooms line the approach roads. The town's own monuments are modest and mostly Ottoman, with the İshak Paşa (Kurşunlu) mosque complex anchoring the old centre. Its better-known attractions sit in the hills above: the Oylat thermal springs, long used as a spa, and the large Oylat cave nearby. İnegöl is normally a meal stop or half-day detour rather than a base, and the valleys around it are at their best in late spring and autumn.
