Yenişehir is a town and district in Bursa Province, in the inland part of Turkey's Marmara region, spread across a broad and fertile plain east of the city of Bursa. Its name simply means "new town", and it belongs to the earliest chapter of Ottoman history: Osman I used it as a base during the first Ottoman expansion towards Bursa and İznik, and the settlement took shape around that period rather than as a later provincial foundation. What remains today is a quiet agricultural town rather than a monumental one. Ottoman-era mosques, a hamam and old timber-framed houses survive among ordinary modern streets, the best known being the Şemaki House, a restored Ottoman mansion kept as a museum, with painted interiors typical of prosperous provincial households of its time. The surrounding plain is still farmed intensively, and the pattern of fields, orchards and low hills defines much of the local character. Yenişehir is normally seen as a short stop rather than a destination in its own right, most often on routes linking Bursa with İznik and Bilecik, and an hour or two is enough for the historic centre. Bursa Yenişehir Airport, the main airport serving the Bursa area, lies just outside the town. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons, as the plain turns hot and hazy in midsummer.
