Gobeklitepe is today the source of controversial debate as to its origins, due to the advanced architecture, size of pillar stones found there (up to 60 tons) and of the site itself (20 temples uncovered so far). As you explore the ancient ruins you will see statues and objects carved out of stone that has survived the test of the elements for thousands of years, predating the oldest pyramids of Egypt, the Sumerian civilization and Stonehenge by up to 6,000 years.
